Last month we talked about fascia - the connective tissue that supports and surrounds everything in your body. This month, we're focusing on something just as important, but often overlooked: your breath.

Breathing is something we do all day, every day . . . but most of us don't do it very well.

When we are stressed, rushed, or in pain, our breathing becomes shallow. This can lead to tension in the neck and shoulder, fatigue, and even increased anxiety. On the other hand, slow, steady breathing helps calm the nervous system, lower blood pressure, and gently release tension throughout the body.

The beautiful thing is this: Your breath is always with you - and it's one of the easiest tools you have to feel better.

Taking just a few moments to focus on your breath can:

  • Relax tight muscles

  • Improve circulation

  • Support better sleep

  • Help you feel more centered and at ease

And you don't need any special equipment or a lot of time.

Try This Simple Breathing Exercise (Box Breathing)

This is sometimes called "four-square breathing," and it's easy to remember.

  1. Sit comfortably, with your feet on the floor

  2. Gently inhale through your nose for a count of 4

  3. Hold your breath for a count of 4

  4. Slowly exhale through your mouth for a count of 4

  5. Hold again for a count of 4

Repeat this cycle 4-5 times.

There's no need to force anything - just let your breath be smooth and steady.

Even one minute of mindful breathing can shift how you feel.

So today, take a moment . . . pause . . . and just breathe.
